LISCA’s November Annual Meeting

Long-time member Captain Aaron Hilliard is again welcoming us aboard the NYC cruise ship he works on for a trip on the East River and along Liberty Island.

Here are the details shared with us by Capt. Hilliard.

When: August 19th, 2023 12 PM-2 PM (Boarding starts at 11 AM.

Where: We will be getting underway from Pier 61, Chelsea Piers, West 23rd St. and 12th Ave, (111 11th Ave, New York, NY 10011). Boarding starts at 11 AM.

Details: We will be onboard the Spirit of New York, a 150ft, 4 deck ship enjoying a Lunch Cruise, sailing the waters of the East River (Brooklyn Bridge/South Street Seaport area), and of course Liberty Island (Statue of Liberty). Lunch will be served with amazing views, good company with your other shipmates, and Kristen and I as your host.

Cost: After working with the Sales Division in the front office, we were able to reduce the ticket price to $75 per person. Parking is still one of the biggest inconveniences of visiting NYC. With that, parking is available at Chelsea Piers but it's VERY expensive. The advice we give passengers is to street park, or to use an independent parking garage in the area.

Chelsea Piers allows cars to enter their parking area, pier side, and drop off passengers; as long as you're out within 15 minutes, you're not charged. The off-sight parking I use is Edison Park Fast, 161 10th Ave, at the corner of West 20th St. and 10th Ave. Most of the time, I take the New York Waterway ferry from Port Imperial, Weehawken, to Midtown (near the Intrepid). Then I Uber to Pier 61.

Those that are participating will pick a number the day of the event from a hat depending on how many are participating (to participate you must purchase a gift)

We will meet at the beach Saturday afternoon the 17th time TBD to do the exchange so bring your chairs, drinks and an appetizer/snack.

You will have 1 chance to steal (so wear your pirate attire) someone else's gift when it's your turn or use your number to accept the corresponding gift.

In case of Rain...rain date will be in August or worst case at our Labor day event.

This Is Bring You Own Food and Drink

The anchorage area off the beach has excellent holding, you will need a dingy to get to the beach. Some people attending will have dinghies, if you let me know you need a dingy ride to the beach, I will be happy to accommodate. Please give me notice prior to the event if you need a ride to the beach.

West Harbor is a well protected harbor and a nice spot to anchor overnight if you wish.

Please bring folding chairs for you and your guests and small table is advisable.

The weather is warming and we’re itching to get out of the house.

This is our second Educational Zoom of the year with a presentation from one of our longtime members

As the cold weather and the pandemic keep us indoors and for the most part alone or in very small groups we thought it was a good time to hold a zoom to get members together and to refresh our boating skills in this case “Knots”. We will be hosting a zoom on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 7:00 with John McGuinness as our presenter.

John has been a long-time LISCA member and an owner of Catalina boats for more than 35 Years. He has been sailing and delivering boats for longer than that.

To start 2021 off we are hosting our first Educational Zoom event of the year with a presentation from one of our own longtime members.

With cold weather upon us now is a good time to refresh our skills on First Aid. On January 7, 2021, at 7 PM, we will be hosting a First Aid informative refresher course.

This session will be lead by Anthony Pozun RN, LISCA member. Tony is an American Heart Association certified CPR and First aid Instructor, NYS Registered Professional Nurse, and retired NCPD Police Det./Sergeant, Emergency Medical Technician.
